Sometimes motivation to keep going when Online Learning is just one of the hardest things to do, and with good reason. There’s so much out there that you can learn and you only have a small window of opportunity each week to sit down and start to focus on learning that sometimes you just have to wonder if it’s worth it.
Honestly that’s a feeling that a lot of people tend to have each week. Motivation isn’t just a switch that you can turn on and off on a whim. So how do you stay focused then on your tasks and how do you keep yourself motivated to learn?
Well, let’s look at several ways to stay motivated when you’re learning through the internet, and need to stay connected online.
Keep A Schedule
Keeping a schedule is extremely important when you want to start learning through online means. A lot of times people think that just because it’s convenient and right there that means that they can just pick it up whenever they want to, and while that is certainly true, it’s not conducive to actually learning.
See, we as humans need repetition in our lives; it’s how we retain information and why practice and training is so important to us. It’sthrough this sort of learning process that we retain information and why when we learn something new we’re often tasked with reviewing, testing, and then further reviewing so it sticks in with our mind. Every course worth its money that you learn (or even want to learn on your own) will have a review section for you to go over.
Schedule is how we retain information AND retain information because it allows us a time and even a place to sit down and review and further our learning. If you just picked a time whenever – which is still fine forgetting engaged – you’re more likely to sit and train yourself to think “yes, now is when I have to learn.”
Especially since doing it whenever is just brain short hand for “time to relax and turn off for a bit.” While scheduling is brain shorthand for “time to sit down and work.” Which makes learning more conducive for us over all.
Remove All Distractions
This one honestly shouldn’t really be stated, but it’s honestly one of the most egregious ways that we don’t keep ourselves motivated properly.
Imagine this: You’re coming home from a long day at work, and you’ve scheduled this particular night for learning something that you want to learn (Be it Cooking, Art, A Skill, etc.) and you sit down to start learning. You pull up the Online Class that you wanted to do, and you sit down to do it.
But, the television is on and you continually glance at your T.V to see what’s playing. Or you’re still logged onto Discord, or Facebook, or some other social App and you continually check that because you keep getting blipped for messages. Or you play music in the background alongside the video you’re watching and tuning into that more than the lesson. Or your pet comes to you wanting attention, or any number of different noises all sound out around you.
Before you know it what was supposed to be 2 hours of learning turned into 4 hours and you’re still not halfway through the weekly lesson and you end up giving up because you’re not remembering or retaining any of the information and just decide to play around on Facebook or watch Netflix.
This is why distractions are so insidious: They direct our attention away from what we’re supposed to be doing and make it harder to stay motivated because they make us want to do other things. Trust me, nothing kills motivation like feeling like you’re wasting time and not understanding any of the things you want to learn, and that can be hugely detrimental to the learning process.
So in essence; jut turn off everything that can possibly be used to distract you, clear out the room you’re using to learn in, and relax and put all of your focus on the task ahead.

Stay Alert and Focused
Easier said than done, of course, but this is one of the best ways to stay motivated when you want to learn.
Sometimes though that’s hard to do when you just want to relax and not be, especially after a long hard day of doing other things before you start to learn Online. However being alert has a lot of benefits to keeping you motivated because it allows you to be able to freely focus on the task at hand instead of being distracted (as I went over above). Not only do you keep your focus and attention on the material you wantto learn, but it also helps with being able to retain information.
So how do you keep alert and focused then? Well the obvious way is to consume coffee to get you focused, however coffee alone isn’t the key to this (especially if you want to remain caffeine free).
In actuality the best way is to eat a balanced diet. By eating a balanced diet of healthy food, and eating foods that are high in natural sugars – such as fruit and the like – it’ll keep you full and focused, as well as giving you a boost in your natural energy levels. Not only that but also having something warm to drink, such as Tea, close by will also help you relax a lot more. Chamomile tea is perfect for relaxation and focus, and if you don’t have a supply of tea on hand to drink then regular plain water helps immensely by keeping you hydrated and healthy.
Trust me, a balanced diet is perfect for learning and motivation and it makes you feel good both physically and mentally.
And honestly, those are just some of the ways that you can stay motivated when learning online that a lot of people don’t regularly focus on when they start out.
